We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Fire Safety to provide strategic leadership for fire safety management and compliance across the University of the Arts London (UAL). As the University’s competent lead adviser, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering fire safety strategy, ensuring robust compliance, and safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and visitors across our diverse estate. Working closely with senior leaders and key stakeholders, you will develop and implement our Fire Safety Management System and Fire Strategy, lead governance and assurance, and build a culture of excellence in fire safety across UAL. You will advise on major capital projects, oversee our fire risk assessment programme, and lead responses to regulatory matters and incidents, ensuring we meet and exceed statutory obligations. Requirements:
Recognised qualification in fire risk assessment
membership of a relevant professional body (such as IFSM)
deep knowledge of current fire legislation (including the Fire Safety Act and Building Safety Act)
strong technical expertise across both passive and active fire safety systems
influential and confident leader
ability to build trusted relationships
ability to guide senior colleagues and external authorities
ability to communicate complex technical requirements
experienced people manager
ability to lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team
experience working within a large, complex or multi-site organisation is desirable
