Job Description

A senior finance leadership role at the centre of technical governance, reporting, and organisational change. This is an opportunity to lead a technical finance function within a complex public sector environment, shaping financial strategy and ensuring robust, compliant operations during a period of significant transformation.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead statutory accounting processes including year-end close and production of the Statement of Accounts
  • Oversee treasury management, taxation, and financial compliance frameworks
  • Act as a principal source of technical financial advice across the organisation
  • Manage external audit relationships and ensure timely, accurate reporting
  • Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team covering technical accounting, treasury, insurance, income and payments
  • Drive improvements in financial controls, compliance, and risk management
  • Maintain oversight of emerging legislation and accounting standards

Requirements

  • Qualified finance professional (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Track record of operating at a senior level within a complex organisation
  • Strong technical expertise across local government finance or a comparable regulated environment
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and delivering through others
  • Ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders with clarity and credibility
