Job Description:

Credit Review is an independent and critical second line of defense function. Its mission is to identify and evaluate areas of credit risk within our business. Credit Review will focus on the review and evaluation of Wholesale and Retail lending activities and will identify risks and provide an ongoing assessment as to the effectiveness of the risk management framework and the related portfolios. As our US Head of Credit Risk Review, you will assess business units, ensure alignment with HSBC policy, and maintain key relationships with regulators.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assess the business units and risk management functions to ensure the portfolios are managed and operating in a manner that is consistent with HSBC Group strategy, risk appetite, appropriate local and HSBC Group credit policies and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements, including the unilateral authority to independently assess and revise customer risk ratings, facility grades and loss given default estimates
  • ensure its independent stature, the Credit Review charter is endorsed by the Risk Committee of our Board of Directors which grants the Head of Credit Review unhindered access to the Risk Committee and executive sessions at the discretion of the Head of Credit Review
  • ensure our Board of Directors has oversight of the Credit Review annual and ongoing plan, quarterly plan updates and results of reviews

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification in accounting, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience
  • professional certification
  • experience in commercial credit risk, lending or credit analysis experience or equivalent
  • loan review, loan workout at a Globally Significant Financial Institution (GSFI), public accounting or federal bank examination experience
  • very strong knowledge of Regional regulatory landscape and ability to access the impact of proposed changes in regulatory rules to the bank, especially those pertaining to credit risk, business loans, bankruptcy, contracts, securities law, Uniform Commercial Code and real estate, in addition to capital requirements and risk rating systems
  • extensive knowledge of a financial institutions business model, products and key risk drivers and a demonstrated ability to effectively balance risk management, regulatory expectations and commercial pragmatism
  • ability to lead and promote a strong credit risk control culture and develops communication strategies to improve credit risk awareness
  • significant experience in credit risk management, governance and independent credit review
  • significant experience of establishing and maintaining external relationships ideally with regulators
  • proven ability to develop strong networks with key stakeholders at all points in a matrix structure, creating an ability to execute task at hand with minimum conflict
  • leading a multi-locational team of professionals
  • providing expert advice and robust challenge
