We’re looking for an ambitious and strategic commercial leader to join our team as Head of Commercial, supporting our rapidly growing Energy division. In this pivotal role, you’ll drive the commercial success of a division that’s at the forefront of delivering projects to support Scotland’s energy transition. You’ll shape and execute the commercial strategy, ensuring sustainable and profitable performance while supporting the Managing Director’s growth plans and contributing to Story Scotland’s wider financial targets. Your leadership will build high performing commercial capability across project and programme delivery teams, ensuring robust decision making and consistently successful outcomes for both Story and our clients. This role involves regular travel across Central and Northern Scotland, providing visible leadership and support to teams delivering critical infrastructure projects. Job Responsibility:
Lead the development and implementation of the Energy division’s commercial strategy, supporting project delivery teams to provide consistent and robust turnover and margin forecasts with the objective risk and opportunities appraisal
Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the project delivery life cycle, from PreConstruction pricing strategy and governance approval forums to contract awards and project completion, to deliver profitable outcomes aligned with business targets
Drive robust decision-making through analytical insight and commercial acumen
Collaborate with our Procurement Manager and Commercial Director to strengthen supply chain capability and capacity for anticipated workload volumes
Champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and commercial excellence across the division
Requirements:
A proactive team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
Proven experience in leading and developing commercial teams
Ability to provide constructive challenge to achieve optimal commercial outcomes and meet profitability targets
Strong knowledge of the civil infrastructure market sector
Skilled in coaching and mentoring teams to enhance commercial acumen, decision making and contractual awareness
Experience in building collaborative relationships with clients and suppliers, both existing and new
Strong analytical skills with the ability to present clear, value added commercial insights
Exceptional influencing and negotiation capabilities
Ability to set vision, define targets, and execute plans whilst fostering accountability
Experience in preparing business cases and investment proposals, with a natural drive for innovation
Experience of working with various contract types and negotiating contractual terms
IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office
Nice to have:
Formal qualifications in commercial or business management are desirable but not essential
