The Head of Architecture & Design plays a key role in structuring the enterprise in terms of its business, data, application, and technical architectures. This person aligns strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services, partners and suppliers, organisation, capabilities, and key business and IT initiatives. The primary focuses are the University Strategic Framework and Digital Strategy, business operations, data governance and technical frameworks and related processes that link these aspects of the enterprise together. The Head of Architecture & Design works to develop an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct analysis to determine the best path for solving problems/opportunities that may include process improvement and systems enhancement
Reviewing, analysing, evaluating ideas, projects and opportunities to develop new products and services
Collaborating across departments to both find opportunities for and aid the showcase of the emerging pipeline and strategic direction.
Providing overall direction, guidance and definition of enterprise architecture to effectively support both the University and IT strategies
Ensure solutions developed are aligned to enterprise architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and work within agreed budgetary costs.
Creating business architecture models demonstrating how products, processes, operations and systems interoperate
Apply and utilise business modelling methods to ensure results orientated deliverables to standardise, where possible, systems and services
Act as a subject matter expert in the development of architecture framework development, tool suite selection and methodology development
Have and continue to gain a broad understanding of industry trends and innovations, and their impact on technology.
Guide the IT Leadership team through the development of an architecture plan for the line of business. Evaluate and present information that will facilitate effective and timely decision-making through written and oral communication materials that effectively summarise findings with recommendations.
Collaborate in developing an IT framework that aligns with the IT strategy and Project Portfolio.
Work with all IT departments to identify and document the capability, initiative needs and strategic prioritisation into deliverables and roadmaps, setting the architectural vision.
Ensure Service and project requirements are in alignment with both strategies, current and future state IT architecture. Accountable and responsible for architectural and design governance.
Describe the primary business functions and processes of the enterprise and distinguish between customer-facing, supplier-related, business execution and business management functions.
Define the set of strategic, core and support processes that cross functional and organisational boundaries, identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business
and the people, resources and controls which are involved.
Work with Head of Divisions to Develop Sectional Strategy
Work with Heads of Section to develop cross section design strategy, technology roadmap and policies and processes.
Work with all IT Teams and the Project Office to understand and link business process into projects and identify upcoming large-scale projects and their impact on major projects
Work with technical and solution architects to ensure cross sectional projects are appropriately delivered and designed with full scoping which is future proofed
Ensuring cross department communication and to eliminate design silos
Work with Communications to ensure that infrastructure and application projects benefits are realised by the University
Work with Business Partners to identify opportunities for solutions based from existing solutions to business needs and where new technologies should be invested in to deliver business needs.
Identifying opportunities for section wide and ITS wide Continuous Service Improvement and automation projects
Coordinating technical and solution architectural elements of projects to identify opportunities to amalgamate project needs to minimise expenditure and technology
Liaising with Technical Architecture and Security to ensure that Infrastructure roadmap matches the overall architectural roadmap and is appropriately secured
Looking at Division wide policies, processes and working with Heads of Section to define them and support implementation
Work with other Heads of Section to identify strategic benefits of technology choices and help formulate a cross sectional technology plan identifying opportunities to establish efficiencies by finding additional benefits of existing and potential solutions.
Identifying long-term platforms and projects that will need to exist to support future developments and championing them (e.g. M365, Azure, Cloud readiness).
Line Management of the Architecture Team

Requirements:
Knowledge of Service Orientated Architecture and associated frameworks (TOGAF)
Experience of managing large multi-disciplined teams including line management
Experience of providing sound design solutions to complex issues
Experience of working in a large, challenging multi-site environment
Extensive experience of working within large complex programmes and projects
Experience of running an Architecture function
Togaf 9.2 Foundation (Working towards full certification)
A degree and or relevant Industry certified qualifications
