Job Description:

This is a highly skilled position involving laying out and leading the work of journeymen automotive mechanics. Incumbents are responsible for performing the most difficult tasks of the trade and must possess a thorough knowledge of such. Work is broadly outlined by a supervisor permitting wide leeway for planning and supervising jobs. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Automotive Mechanics and subordinate personnel.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Mechanics, Automotive Technology or related field and two (2) years of full-time experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles and/or construction or heavy equipment
  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles and/or construction or heavy equipment
  • An equivalent combination of education, and experience between the limits of (A) and (B) above
  • Possession of a valid appropriate level Driver License or Commercial Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State with proper endorsements (varies by appointing authority) at the time of appointment and to maintain position

  • Own the mechanical design and integration of components within the robot’s head assembly, including PCBAs, cameras, microphones, sensors, antennas, wire harnesses and computing modules
  • Own the mechanical product lifecycle from concept through validation and production ramp-up
  • Analyze and optimize materials, tolerance stack-ups, mass distribution, thermal performance, stiffness, and durability to meet performance, safety, and aesthetic requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems into the full robot architecture
  • Create and maintain design documentation including 3D CAD models, detailed GD&T drawings, specifications and assembly instructions
  • Support production, mechanical testing, reliability validation, and failure analysis for continuous improvement
  • Iterate on design concepts and build rapid prototypes in partnership with the in-house prototyping lab
  • Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to apply DFM/DFA principles for scalable, cost-effective designs
  • Collaborate with industrial designers to harmonize head functionality with exterior appearance and aesthetics
