We are looking for a Hatchery Training and Development Specialist to support our Stephenville hatchery by building employee capability, strengthening operational consistency, and promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and performance. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about people development and operational excellence in a hands-on production environment. Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, you will work closely with leaders and employees to ensure procedures are clearly documented, training is practical and effective, and employees are set up for success in their roles.
Job Responsibility
Lead onboarding and training for new employees, helping them understand their roles, responsibilities, and company expectations.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, instructional materials, onboarding guides, and other training resources.
Partner with employees and leaders to identify training needs and deliver practical, on-the-job learning and development.
Track employee progress after training and provide follow-up coaching to support skill development and performance improvement.
Promote safe work practices and reinforce compliance with health and safety, food safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Share technical knowledge, best practices, and operational know-how across the hatchery team.
Maintain accurate training records and skills information to support workforce planning and development.
Support recruitment, interviewing, and employee development activities as needed.
Coordinate external training opportunities when required.
Review procedures, systems, and training practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Requirements
Post-secondary education in aquaculture, biology, education, training, or a related field is considered an asset. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
Experience in hatchery operations, aquaculture, fish farming, or a related production environment.
Strong background in training, coaching, and employee development in a practical, hands-on setting.
Ability to create clear procedures, guides, and training materials.
Knowledge of safe work practices, environmental stewardship, and quality standards.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance time on the floor with documentation, follow-up, and continuous improvement work.
Experience supporting onboarding, performance improvement, or workforce development is considered an asset
