Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids. We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit. We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations. As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for an experienced Hardware Technician to join the Hands team. In this role, you will work closely with all hardware and software disciplines to design, fabricate, and test electromechanical prototypes, helping accelerate product development and innovation. You will leverage your broad expertise in electrical debug & testing, scripting, and rapid mechanical prototyping to build and test functional parts and assemblies that integrate into our robotic hand systems.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with EE, FW, and MEs to accelerate development cycles for our robotic hand
Debug and test PCBAs on initial bring-up and validation, flash firmware, and perform component rework when needed
Design, fabricate, and assemble custom mechanical prototypes, including structural components, enclosures, joints, and mechanisms for robotic systems
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure smooth integration of prototypes into the overall system design
Perform hands-on assembly and testing of prototypes to validate fit, function, and performance under real-world conditions
Document your work by creating drawings, assembly guides, and test reports to support future development and scalability
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in robotics, automotive, consumer electronics hardware development organizations
Experience with electrical testing equipment like oscilloscopes and power supplies and data logging
Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape for creating 3D models and engineering drawings
Strong hands-on experience with 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, manual machining tools, and hand tools
Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative, hands-on approach to hardware development
Experience creating detailed documentation, including assembly guides and test procedures
Nice to have:
Experience working with robotic systems and mechatronic assemblies
Experience in designing custom test rigs for component validation
Understanding of data acquisition systems and test automation tools
