The IBM Storage Hardware Design Team leads the development of IBM’s storage hardware platforms and media technologies. This includes defining and executing storage architectures, driving design and implementation efforts, conducting reviews, resolving technical issues, and collaborating with vendors and manufacturing partners. The team operates across multiple IBM business segments to deliver innovative storage solutions. Engineers on this team bring a broad skill set spanning electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and thermal design. Strong communication skills are essential to enable effective collaboration with internal teams as well as external suppliers and partners to drive technical outcomes. Team members actively contribute to design decisions for both IBM-internal and externally developed products.
Job Responsibility:
Create plans and solutions for IBM storage platforms using existing products and roadmaps
Collaborate with IBM Offering Managerment and Architects to create cost effective and technological innovative storage solutions
Work with IBM Engineering team and drive technical solutions
Collaborate with vendors and partners on technical issues and development
Follow and update engineering team on technologes and industry trends
Use market feedback to create solutions that meet clients requirements
Be an active participant in the design and test process of IBM storage platforms
Participate in debug sessions with vendors and staff in the lab
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree
Fundamental understanding of Computer Architecture and Infrastructure
Excellent Analytical Skills
10+ years experience within computer hardware design
Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
Strong understanding of the interaction between Software, Firmware and Hardware
Understanding of the fundamentals of electromechanical design
Nice to have:
Fundamental understanding of Thermal Analysis and Thermal Design
Fundamental understanding of the interaction between BIOS, BMC, CPLD and OS
Fundamental understanding of Digital and Analog Circuit Design
Knowledge of networking hardware and associated components and interfaces such as FPGAs/ ASICs, PHY, SerDes, CPU subsystems, optics, high-speed serial links, PoE, PCIe, NVMe, SATA, I2C, and USB
