Job Description:

Wētā FX is currently taking applications from experienced Hard Surface Modellers to join our team onsite in Wellington or Vancouver on shows delivering this year. The Models Department is responsible for the creation of digital assets across all shows. Within this, Hard Surface Modellers focus on building vehicles, architecture, props, armour and more.

Job Responsibility:

  • Building vehicles, architecture, props, armour and more
  • creating photorealistic digital assets
  • delivering assets that meet technical requirements of other departments

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in VFX production
  • ability to create photo realistic models from 2D reference, previs, photogrammetry and scan data
  • delivering clean, well-constructed assets that meet technical requirements of Rigging, FX, Layout and Lookdev
  • impressive reel showing wide range of hard surface models with clean and efficient topology and UVs
  • great eye for matching supplied reference and detailing to a photoreal result
  • knowledge and experience using Maya efficiently in a production environment
  • experience with Mudbox or Z-Brush
  • comfortable taking direction and working independently while being an effective team player
  • strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • understand Linux desktop and system commands to perform daily tasks comfortably
  • excellent organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • clear and confident communicator

Nice to have:

  • Experience in other modelling disciplines (characters, creatures or environments)
  • ability to script in MEL and/or Python
  • Houdini, Reality Capture and Blender
