Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist to join a well-established and progressive Haematology department in the East of England. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive clinical and laboratory Haematology service, with opportunities to develop a specialist interest through dedicated weekly sessions at a tertiary referral centre. The role includes exposure to advanced haemato-oncology services, multidisciplinary working, and specialist clinics.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient Haematology services
  • Manage patients attending new clinics, follow-up clinics, and chemotherapy/day units
  • Provide advice regarding blood film morphology, bone marrow interpretation, clotting and bleeding disorders, and blood product administration
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and inpatient reviews
  • Participate in Haematology on-call services
  • Support anticoagulation and coagulation services
  • Deliver telephone follow-up clinics and specialist haematology clinics
  • Participate in haemato-oncology multidisciplinary meetings (MDTs)
  • 1 day per week at a tertiary referral centre to develop a specialist interest
  • Contribute to Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)
  • Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP)
  • Clinical governance and audit
  • Evidence-based pathway redesign
  • Quality improvement initiatives
  • Development of clinical protocols and care pathways
  • Supervise junior doctors and speciality trainees
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Act as educational/clinical supervisor where appropriate
  • Support multidisciplinary education programmes
  • Participate in research, audit, and CPD activities
  • Contribute to departmental educational meetings and governance activities

Requirements:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Haematology or within 6 months of CCT or CESR on the interview date
  • Clinical training equivalent to UK CCT in Haematology or General Internal Medicine
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Strong experience in Clinical Haematology
  • Laboratory Haematology
  • Blood film morphology
  • Haemato-oncology services
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Higher degree in Clinical research
