Job Description:

Brindle & Green are currently seeking Habitat Technicians to join the contracting arm of our highly experienced multi-disciplinary practice. Our work is diverse and includes protected species fencing, badger sett creation and closures, habitat creation, habitat management, pond creation and more! You will liaise with inhouse ecologists, arboriculturists, landscapers and external contractors, to ensure work is delivered to requirements and within deadlines. Much of our work is on behalf a wide ranging developer client base and is often an extension of delivering the requirements of the technical outputs designed by our own ecology division. The role will include the use of machinery and plant, of which training will be provided prior to use. You will work as part of a small team and have access to a growing set of tools and equipment as well as the support and benefits that come from working within a growing consultancy. This role will involve working away from home. The frequency of this is carefully monitored depending on scope of works.

  • Estates management or agricultural background or similar with land management skills and qualifications
  • Desirable tickets for excavator, saw, brushcutter
  • Desirable LANTRA (or other work-based) diploma or certificate in outdoor conservation work
  • Desirable Construction safety CSCS card holder
  • Desirable NPTC Chainsaw maintenance & crosscutting
  • Desirable NPTC Chainsaw – felling
  • Desirable NPTC Certificate of competence in brush cutting operations
  • Desirable NPTC Safe use of a brush woodchipper
  • Desirable Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Desirable RTITB/CPCS/NPORS Tracked Excavator
  • Desirable RTITB/CPCS/NPORS Dumper (5 ton)

  • Conduct other habitat management activities such as vegetation assessment, planting, watering, and project maintenance
  • Support the Habitat Steward in maintaining priority habitats that require routine maintenance or restoration including but not limited to grasslands and early successional habitats
  • Maintain current Pesticide Applicator CORE License
  • Use and maintain tools and herbicide equipment to achieve the above functions (e.g., mix, clean, etc.), following safety standards and BMPs
  • Use GPS to document habitat management
  • Assess success of management actions through vegetation surveys, photo-documentation, and other methods
  • Communicate effectively with Trustees staff and visitors on management actions.
