Job Description

Gunsmith can design, fabricate, modify, repair and service foreign and domestic firearms, weapons and accessories. This position will work on external/internal and terminal ballistics; build custom pistols and rifles, as well as other types of weapons systems with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons
  • Build custom pistols or rifles with little or no supervision
  • Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapons
  • Perform small arms inspection and maintenance
  • Possess excellent knowledge of gun-smithing tools and procedures
  • Have knowledge of basic shop safety procedures
  • Perform support functions for the shop, including bead blasting and preparing metal parts for refinishing
  • Fabricate special jigs, fixtures and other special tooling
  • Read and understand blueprint drawings
  • Perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems
  • Perform ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue updates, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control, weapons cleaning and organizational level weapons maintenance

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge in the use of hand tools, machine tools, and other equipment
  • Knowledge and skill to design and construct prototype small arms from drawings or customer input
  • Computer literacy
  • Attendance at a formal one to two year accredited in-house gun-smithing course, and/or at least two years of work experience in this area
  • Training and related experience in the field consistent with the requirements set forth in the contract/delivery order
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
  • US Citizenship
  • Must be available to work any shift
  • Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed

Nice to have

  • Moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics
  • Knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories
