As part of the Gucci team in our Bond Street Flagship store, the In Store Tailor is a technical expert specialising in the Ready to Wear collection. This role is fundamental to preserving Gucci’s standards of craftsmanship, fit, and finish while delivering a highly personalised client experience. The Tailor is responsible for the precision, quality, and integrity of all garment alterations, working with delicate, complex, and high fashion designs. Through expert fitting, pattern adaptation, and finishing, the Tailor ensures each client achieves exceptional comfort, balance, and the desired Gucci aesthetic.
Job Responsibility:
Complete high-quality alterations on Gucci Ready-to-Wear garments using both hand-sewing (needle and thread) and industrial sewing machines
Perform adjustments including hemming, sleeve and shoulder alterations, waist and seat shaping, tapering, relining, and detailed repairs
Sew buttons and buttonholes and carry out fine finishing work as required
Develop, adjust, and adapt garment designs while maintaining the original structure, proportions, and design intent
Position garment patterns accurately on fabric and cut fabric precisely when required, using scissors and specialist tools
Measure clients accurately using tape measures and record detailed measurements
Conduct fittings on clients, including VIP clientele, ensuring discretion, professionalism, and comfort
Fit garments on clients, mark required alterations, and explain fit options clearly in collaboration with Client Advisors
Liaise directly with clients and Client Advisors to interpret styling needs, body proportions, and garment design in line with Gucci standards
Draw and modify individual patterns to suit client measurements and garment style where appropriate
Ensure all altered garments meet Gucci's luxury craftsmanship standards before being returned to the sales floor or client
Inspect garments pre- and post-alteration to confirm flawless execution and consistency
Handle delicate, embellished, or complex fabrics with expert care and attention
Preserve the integrity, balance, and aesthetic of each design throughout the alteration process
Maintain accurate records of all alterations and completed work using the Kering Service digital system
Manage daily workflow, priorities, and turnaround times in alignment with store requirements
Ensure the tailoring workspace is clean, well organised, and compliant with health and safety standards
Maintain and correctly use all tailoring equipment, including sewing machines, pressing tools, and hand tools
Work closely with Store Management, Client Advisors, and Operations teams to support client appointments and peak trading periods
Communicate clearly on garment limitations, timelines, and alteration feasibility
Share expertise informally with store teams on garment fit, construction, and tailoring considerations
Contribute to a seamless client journey and elevated in-store experience
Requirements:
Previous experience as a Tailor, Seamstress, or Alterations Specialist within a luxury, high-end, or premium contemporary fashion environment
Strong expertise in fitting garments on VIP and high-profile clients
Deep understanding of materials and fabrics, with hands-on experience altering complex and delicate garments
Excellent technical knowledge of garment construction and luxury finishing techniques
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment while maintaining precision
Highly organised with strong time-management skills
Excellent customer interaction and communication skills
