The Group Quality Manager (Mechanical) is responsible for leading and continuously improving Designer Group’s mechanical quality programmes and systems across all business units and regions. Based at Designer Group’s Dublin headquarters, this is a senior, hands-on leadership role that acts as a coach and technical authority for BU leadership, QA/QC teams, and operational delivery teams. You will drive consistency, compliance, and a “right first time” culture across live projects, off-site fabrication, and supply chain partners. This role reports directly to the Group QEHS Director and plays a key part in protecting delivery certainty, client confidence, and Designer Group’s reputation for flawless execution.
Job Responsibility:
Own and maintain the Group Mechanical Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), including IMS and related platforms
Lead mechanical quality strategy across all regions, ensuring consistent application of standards, specifications, and procedures
Act as the senior quality authority for mechanical systems across projects and fabrication environments
Provide proactive quality leadership from project startup through to mechanical completion and final handover
Support project teams with risk management, issue resolution, and compliant solutions across all quality milestones
Review installations against Designer Group quality plans, ITPs, project specifications, and client standards
Coordinate and manage the mechanical QA function, including Field QA, Test Pack Engineers, Welding Coordinators, Inspectors, and NDT specialists
Drive a “Right First Time” culture through coaching, workshops, audits, inspections, and First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) approvals
Train and mentor teams on quality best practice and continuous improvement
Own mechanical quality reporting, KPIs, dashboards, and system-of-record platforms
Manage system and equipment test packs and handover documentation
Oversee quality audits and inspections, ensuring corrective actions are assigned, tracked, and closed out
Liaise with operations on walkdowns, snag management, mechanical completion, and handover scheduling
Coordinate third-party specialists including inspectors, NDT, off-site fabrication, flushing, passivation, and FATs
Conduct FMEA, root cause analysis, and quality defect investigations
Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design and installation quality issues
Requirements:
Recognised third-level qualification or trade qualification with extensive mechanical systems experience
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in mechanical quality assurance, quality control, or mechanical engineering leadership
Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems (internal auditor experience desirable)
Experience across relevant standards and codes (ASME, EN, BS, PED, WRAS, DW, ASTM, SMACNA)
Solid understanding of piping materials, fabrication, welding, installations, NDT, and testing
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, schematics, GAs, as-builts
European Welding Inspection qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1) advantageous
Experience with digital QA platforms such as Procore, Eida, or similar
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
