The main purpose of this role is to provide an effective grounds maintenance service for Milton Keynes City Council, maintaining landscape assets in the borough. The operative will undertake a wide range of horticultural and maintenance tasks.
Job Responsibility:
General maintenance of areas using ride-on and pedestrian machinery
Undertake horticultural operations (hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance, planting, strimming, blowing, hard surface maintenance, tree maintenance, chemical application, garden clearance)
Removing litter, emptying bins, clearing leaves
Carryout Groundsman duties in accordance with best practice
Operate ride-on mowers and pedestrian mowers
Use a range of tools and equipment, including power tools and light plant
Drive company vehicles/tow trailers as required
Assist the Chargehand to ensure work is completed on time and to specification
Assist apprentices and fixed term operatives
Communicate effectively with Chargehand and managerial teams
Follow all matters relating to workforce discipline
Wear correct uniform and PPE
Input site visit data onto Glendale Live 2.0 system
Carry out operations in compliance with Health and Safety Procedures
Be aware of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements
Assist in developing good working relationships
Follow instructions relating to vehicles and equipment
Report damage or neglect of equipment
Ensure machinery and tools are looked after
Winter gritting may be required from October to April
Requirements:
Previous knowledge of Grounds Maintenance skills is desirable
Previous experience of handheld machinery is desirable
Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence
Reliable and conscientious
A can do attitude
A willingness to learn
Ability to work on one's own initiative
Previous experience of grounds maintenance work, horticultural tasks
