The Grinding Plant Operator supports the RHI Magnesita York facility by safely and efficiently operating plant equipment within established parameters. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate daily records, adhering strictly to Safety and Quality policies, and ensuring a consistent supply of raw feed is delivered to the rotary kilns. Successful candidates are self-motivated, detail-oriented individuals who can work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong commitment to operational excellence.
Job Responsibility:
Control material flow to produce rotary kiln raw feed that meets established quality standards
Monitor storage bin levels and assess material needs
Operate plant equipment including vibratory screens, conveyors, skid steer, forklift, and other mobile equipment
Inspect plant equipment and complete daily operational and daily 6S checklists in accordance with procedures
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks and daily/weekly housekeeping activities
Conduct extensive clean-up activities, including vacuuming, shoveling, high-pressure washing, etc
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and general upkeep of equipment and work areas
Communicate plant operating status effectively with quarry and rotary personnel
Report equipment issues, safety concerns, near misses, damage, or injuries through the designated safety tracking system
Work overtime and/or alternate shifts as needed to support departmental coverage
Collaborate and communicate effectively with all team members
Rotate responsibilities within the department as assigned
Perform all work in accordance with RHI Magnesita’s Health and Safety policies
Adhere to all EHS and IMS policies and job expectations as specified in the Job Descriptions of the Persons Responsible for IMS, RHI Magnesita NAM Regional Safety Rules, Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities, and Safety Rules and Responsibilities documents
Requirements:
Thorough understanding of safety protocols and regulations within a manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, assess, and troubleshoot equipment and material issues
Ability to accurately complete paperwork, production records, shift reports, and computerized time entry
Basic mathematical skills required for material tracking and production monitoring
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, email, and SAP
Ability to follow established procedures and work independently with minimal supervision
Strong observational skills and attention to detail
Physical demands include but are not limited to standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting – 75 pounds maximum
Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (including hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and gloves)
