The Graphic Designer is a creative visual storyteller dedicated to supporting the mission of Our Client. This role leads the design, layout, and production of engaging print and digital content to inform, inspire, and connect the community across Middle Tennessee. In collaboration with the content and digital teams and under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Graphic Designer develops layouts for core client print publications, including the bi-weekly newspaper and quarterly magazine. The designer also produces compelling graphics for digital platforms such as websites, podcasts, email campaigns, social media, and livestreamed video.
Job Responsibility:
Design and produce layouts for Our Client's print media including newspaper and magazine, ensuring content is both visually engaging and consistent with brand standards
Create original digital graphics, illustrations, logos, infographics, and advertisements for web and multimedia platforms
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing workloads to meet production schedules and publication deadlines in collaboration with the Managing Editor
Capture and edit photographs for use across print, web, and social channels
Advise on visual identity, including fonts, colors, and sizing for print and digital materials
Attend and document events
some evening and weekend hours required
Recommend topics and subjects for inclusion in client coverage
Support content production, scheduling, and distribution using online content management platforms
Monitor current events at local, national, and international levels to inform storytelling and coverage
Maintain collaborative relationships with pastors, parish staff, client leadership, and the wider community
Serve as a resource for specialized communications or design needs within the organization
Maintain accuracy, integrity, and strong organizational systems, including management of the digital asset library

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, web design, or related field required
an associate’s degree in graphic design and at least five years’ relevant experience may be considered
At least two years of professional graphic design experience, ideally in print publications, marketing, PR, or news media
Demonstrated portfolio showcasing complete, original design work
Proficiency with design software such as InDesign and Canva, and with image-editing tools including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
Strong photography and photo-editing skills
experience with DSLR cameras and smartphones preferred
Solid computer skills, including MS Word or Google Docs
Willingness to learn content and asset management systems and stakeholder databases
Excellent writing, editing, and organizational abilities
Knowledge of AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style
Experience with multi-channel content strategy and an understanding of traditional/digital media norms
Creative, adaptable, and a strong team collaborator able to work independently as needed
High standards for accuracy, accountability, and professional ethics
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region
flexibility for occasional weekends/evenings
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud
