The Grant Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of grant financial management, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with GAAP, and timely reimbursement activities. This leader will manage the cleanup of existing grant accounting backlogs, establish improved processes, and provide guidance to staff and cross-functional partners to ensure grant activity is recorded accurately and efficiently.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the cleanup and resolution of legacy grant accounting backlogs, ensuring all historical transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled
Oversee the processing of grant remittances, drawdowns, and reimbursement requests, ensuring timeliness and compliance with Federal, State, and private grantor requirements
Ensure all grant transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP, including journal entries, accruals, and revenue recognition
Review and approve reconciliations of grant revenues, expenditures, and disbursements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with grant agreements
Ensure grants are set up correctly in the financial system, with proper coding, documentation, and internal controls in place
Partner with internal teams to streamline and strengthen grant accounting processes, documentation, and compliance workflows
Serve as a subject matter expert for grant compliance and reporting, providing guidance and support to leadership and operational teams
Adapt quickly to a homegrown or evolving financial system environment
identify opportunities for system or process improvements
Mentor and support staff involved in grant accounting activities
provide oversight, training, and quality review as needed
Requirements:
5+ years of progressive grant accounting experience
3+ years working with Federal grants
previous supervisory or project‑lead experience strongly preferred
Proficiency in GAAP accounting principles and practices
Systems-savvy and adaptable, with the ability to quickly learn and navigate a homegrown or nonstandard financial system
Strong work ethic and leadership presence with the ability to step into a fast-paced environment, provide structure, and drive results
Expertise in processing remittances and government-related transactions
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting
High attention to detail and organizational skills to manage complex financial data
Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
