We are looking for a detail-oriented Grant Accountant to support grant-related financial management for an organization in Toledo, Ohio. This contract position offers a path to a permanent role and will oversee the accounting lifecycle of awarded grants, from budget support and compliance monitoring through reporting, reconciliation, and closeout. The role works closely with finance and program teams to maintain accurate records, monitor spending, and ensure funding is used in accordance with grant requirements.
Job Responsibility
Partner with internal staff to gather documentation needed for prompt billing, invoice creation, and required grant reporting
Review expenses to confirm charges align with grant terms and are appropriate for reimbursement
Examine payroll activity against approved grant budgets and adjust coding when costs fall outside funding guidelines
Monitor grant drawdowns throughout the funding period to maintain timely cash requests and adherence to applicable regulations
Contribute to month-end close activities by preparing and supporting grant-related financial information
Assist finance leadership with building and updating grant budgets for new and existing awards
Share regular financial updates with program leaders to highlight current spending, available balances, and potential budget concerns
Work with accounting leadership to prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records across assigned grants
Support external audit requests and complete periodic grant reports, including quarterly, semi-annual, and annual submissions
Track each grant's awarded amount, expenditures, and remaining funds while alerting stakeholders to variances or risk of unspent balances
Requirements
Bachelor's degree required
preferred fields include Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
At least 3 years of relevant experience in grant accounting, fund administration, financial reporting, or audit support within a computerized general ledger environment
Knowledge of grant compliance standards and applicable local, state, and federal funding regulations
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Access
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with close attention to deadlines and accuracy
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of an organization
Experience with grant management, government grants, and fund tracking
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, detail-focused environment while maintaining sound judgment and accountability
