We are looking for a Grant Accountant to support grant-related financial operations for a healthcare organization based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This Long-term Contract position will focus on accurate financial reporting, grant compliance, reconciliations, and budget oversight while partnering closely with finance and development stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, hands-on grant management experience, and the ability to maintain organized, timely, and accurate records across multiple funding sources.
Job Responsibility:
Produce recurring grant and contract financial statements with supporting documentation to ensure complete and accurate reporting
Complete year-end, semi-annual, and other required funding reports for grantors and regulatory agencies within established deadlines
Reconcile grant receivable balances and deferred revenue activity each month, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed
Review spending against approved grant budgets, identify unusual variances, and communicate recommendations to management when adjustments are needed
Prepare, validate, and correct general ledger entries related to grant activity to maintain accurate accounting records
Maintain an effective grant tracking process so key financial data, reporting deadlines, and funding details are readily available
Oversee financial submissions tied to agreements and funding arrangements, confirming accuracy, timeliness, and proper record retention
Track drawdowns and reported expenditures across federal, state, private, and sub-recipient funding sources
Partner with finance leadership and auditors by providing documentation and responding to requests related to grant expenditures and payments
Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work environment through clear communication, teamwork, and support for additional assigned duties
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
At least 3 years of accounting experience, with preference for nonprofit or grant accounting exposure
Demonstrated experience managing grant financial activity, including reporting, reconciliations, and budget monitoring
Strong Excel skills, including functions such as VLOOKUPs and PivotTables
Working knowledge of fund administration, budgeting, ad hoc financial reporting, and private grant processes
Ability to interpret and apply federal and state grant compliance requirements with a high level of accuracy
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment
