To be appointed as a GSI or GSSA, a graduate student must be in good standing in their degree program and for Terms I and II, must be registered for not less than six (6) credit hours
With written approval of the student's faculty advisor, five (5) credit hours may be acceptable
In compliance with Appendix A of the 2023-2026 UM/GEO agreement, potential GSIs whose undergraduate medium of instruction is not English must be evaluated for effective proficiency in classroom English
Effective proficiency includes fluent and intelligible speech, the ability to understand the English spoken by the undergraduate students, the ability to produce organized, coherent explanations, and the ability to contribute to the development of interactions with their students
Graduate students are exempt from ELI 994 and the Graduate Student Instructor Oral English Test (GSI-OET) if they hold an undergraduate degree from a U.S. college or university, or an undergraduate degree from a college or university where English is the exclusive medium of instruction

Job Responsibility

Assist in organizing negotiations and student role assignments
Provide assistance and feedback for assignments and content relating to the course
Manage resources for the classroom
Assist in Canvas management
Evaluate student work and record grades
Search for and screen relevant case studies and classroom exercises
Handle other miscellaneous issues related to the course

Job Responsibility

Lecture in whole or in part one or more classes, jointly hold discussion with the faculty, and consult with the students during office hours
Work closely with student teams, advise on research plans, content, analysis, and written and oral reports
Jointly grade the group assignments and final projects with the faculty
Grade the individual assignments, with review by the faculty
Work with students one-to-one and in teams, read and grade research reports, run discussion sessions, and give lectures
Attend every class lecture and discussion sessions
Hold office hours
Meet with the focal organizations as needed with the faculty
Meet with the faculty at least once a week to discuss the class, its progress, and preparation for the following week

Graduation from a Society of Experimental Test Pilots recognised test pilot school is preferred
EASA pilot license or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL/IR) level with FT Rating Category 1 and FTI Rating or equivalent ICAO license and Test Pilot qualifications to qualify as FTI is preferred

Job Responsibility

Manage, coordinate, and oversee the successful execution of courses and flying programs
Ensure compliance, student welfare and satisfaction for courses assigned by the Head of Training or CFI-RW
Brief and prepare students for flight exercises, including completion of Risk Assessments
Authorise flights within the scope of assigned responsibilities
Provide flight exercise demonstrations, and support students in practising flight test techniques and data-gathering techniques
Debrief course flights and generate Sortie Report Assessments to track student progress
Ensure students prepare and submit reports for exercises managed by the FTI
Act as the first reviewer of student reports, ensuring they meet syllabus requirements and providing regular feedback to the appropriate CFI and Head of Training
Address any student progress concerns promptly with the CFI or Head of Training
Take on special projects that you are qualified to perform as requested by your manager, which may require travel internationally
