Job Description:

The Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) for the Honors Seminar series will be assigned to co-teach with the primary instructor for every Honors Seminar. This is a part-time appointment (50% effort) for Fall 2026.

Job Responsibility:

  • Co-teach with the primary instructor for every Honors Seminar
  • Meet with each instructor before every class
  • Grade assignments
  • Take attendance
  • Assign make-up work
  • Ensure logistics and room reservations are confirmed
  • Communicate with students in Canvas
  • Manage emails for each section of Honors Seminar

Requirements:

  • University of Michigan graduate student in good standing
  • Taking at least 6 credit hours in the Fall 2026 term
  • Must have successfully completed ENGR 230, 330, and 430

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience facilitating discussions
  • Previous teaching experience

  • Graduation from a Society of Experimental Test Pilots recognised test pilot school is preferred

  • Manage, coordinate, and oversee the successful execution of courses and flying programs
  • Ensure compliance, student welfare and satisfaction for courses assigned by the Head of Training or CFI-RW
  • Brief and prepare students for flight exercises, including completion of Risk Assessments
  • Authorise flights within the scope of assigned responsibilities
  • Provide flight exercise demonstrations, and support students in practising flight test techniques and data-gathering techniques
  • Debrief course flights and generate Sortie Report Assessments to track student progress
  • Ensure students prepare and submit reports for exercises managed by the FTI
  • Act as the first reviewer of student reports, ensuring they meet syllabus requirements and providing regular feedback to the appropriate CFI and Head of Training
  • Address any student progress concerns promptly with the CFI or Head of Training
  • Take on special projects that you are qualified to perform as requested by your manager, which may require travel internationally
