ALA 104 (Introduction to Research) is a community membership course where students learn about research, discuss research ethics using articles and case studies, complete workshops on common research tools (including library resources, Excel, and PowerPoint), and practice communicating their own research to a general audience.
Job Responsibility:
Work with the faculty instructor to scaffold and implement curricula
Communicate with students regularly
Engage students in discussion of material during class times, office hours and other irregularly scheduled meetings
Grade all assignments
Post grades weekly to the Canvas gradebook
Attend weekly course meetings (Tuesdays from 4:00PM - 5:00PM)
Hold office hours weekly
Respond to student emails within 1 business day
Requirements:
Enrolled and in good standing in an LSA graduate program for Terms I and II
Registered for not less than six (6) credit hours (five (5) may be acceptable with written approval of faculty advisor)
Research experience
Ability to work with students from all disciplinary backgrounds
Ability to provide written feedback to ~115 students
Ability to support students throughout the semester
Nice to have:
Experience as an instructor or grader of a similar course
Practical experience in STEM as a student
Practical knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative methods
