GSI for ORGSTUDY 310: Formal Organizations and Environments. Survey of theory and research on formal organizations from sociological and economic perspectives. Emphasizes multiple levels of analysis in organizational theory. Students apply theories to existing case studies and develop original case research.
Job Responsibility:
Attend every class
Hold office hours to answer student questions
Lecture in whole or in part one or more classes and facilitate discussion assignments for in-class groups
Primary responsibility for grading, in consultation with the faculty
Meet as necessary during the semester
Maintain and update grade sheets and other records
Conduct several 'research labs' during the semester to aid in secondary source research and offer advice on draft writing assignments
Requirements:
In good standing in their degree program
Registered for not less than six (6) credit hours for Terms I and II (five (5) with advisor approval)
For non-native English speakers: effective proficiency in classroom English as evaluated by the GSI-OET or exemption criteria (undergraduate degree from a U.S. institution or English-medium institution)
First-time GSIs must attend 20 hours of pedagogical classes, including the CRLT Fall 2026 GSI Teaching Orientation
For ORGSTUDY 310 (ULWR course): required to take WRITING 993 concurrently or have taken it previously
Nice to have:
Social Science (e.g. Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Economics) or related professional school (e.g. Business, Policy, Social Work, Public Health, Education) graduate student
Strong writing skills
Experience teaching writing
Experience in project-based classes
LSA graduate student
