The Department of Political Science was founded in 1974 and currently has over 40 ladder-rank and 8 adjunct faculty who represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds, methodologies, and approaches. A relatively young department, Political Science has skyrocketed to prominence among peer institutions in the United States. The most recent National Academy of Sciences study ranks UCSD among the top graduate programs in political science in the country. The doctoral program encompasses five broad sub-fields: American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory and methodology. Each year, the Department of Political Science supports nearly 100 scheduled undergraduate courses, 40 graduate courses, 35+ summer session courses, over 12,000 undergraduate course enrollments, and 1,000 undergraduate majors; The department receives an estimated 300 graduate program applications and attracts significant levels of extramural funding in support of research projects. Under the general direction of the Director of Student Affairs, this position is responsible for all aspects of administration and management of the Psychology department’s graduate program which serves 65 graduate students and 30 faculty. Responsibilities include: Academic Advising; Program Planning and Implementation; Curriculum Planning and Implementation; Financial Support; Graduate Admissions, Outreach and Recruitment. Provide recommendations for reaching short and long-term goals and objectives for the program. Additionally, this position is responsible for departmental temporary instructional academic personnel and human resources. Applies professional Student Services concepts. Provides varied student services to graduate students, faculty, and department and school management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues.

Experience in effective academic advising techniques
Knowledge of Political Science course content and faculty areas of interest
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
Working knowledge of accounting principles, business math and bookkeeping for budget planning and analysis
