Make your mark as Graduate Intern at DTED. Are you an MSc student looking for a graduation assignment where Python programming, logistics, and large‑scale dredging projects come together? At Boskalis, you will work on a real‑world engineering challenge and contribute to improving how complex marine construction projects are planned. Multi‑front dredging projects involve multiple work locations, shared dredging and support fleets, variable weather conditions, and tight schedules, with planning still largely experience‑based. In this graduation assignment, you will investigate how simulation‑based optimization can improve resource allocation in such projects to improve project performance while maintaining robustness. You will work closely with Boskalis specialists and gain insight into how advanced analytics and engineering come together in real projects around the world.
Job Responsibility:
Formalize the problem: Define how to represent resource allocation decisions (who works where, when, and with what support) as decision variables, and specify performance metrics such as project duration, cost, and utilization
Integrate simulation and optimization: Extend an existing discrete-event simulation (DES) model by coupling it with an in-house optimization approach to evaluate alternative planning strategies
Work with real-world data: Use actual project and tender data in your project
Generate useful insight: Analyse the results to determine which resource allocation decisions provide the best balance between project performance and robustness
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in an MSc programme in a technical degree (e.g. TIL or Mechanical Engineering)
Affinity with Python programming and an interest in simulation and optimization techniques
Analytically strong and enjoy working on complex, real‑world engineering challenges
Motivated to apply academic knowledge to practical applications within dredging and marine construction
What we offer:
Warm welcome
Student allowance
Fun work environment with lots of challenges
Dynamic work environment where you can learn a lot from a leading company and be part of a diverse team of experts
