This is a hybrid role where we expect you to come to our Cardiff office twice a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays). We are looking for an ambitious and motivated graduate to join our Household Underwriting team in Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in a technical, data‑driven, and customer‑focused area of insurance, with aim of becoming a part of the Performance, Change & Governance area of the Household Underwriting team. As a Graduate Household Underwriter, you’ll gain exposure to all aspects of home insurance underwriting — from understanding risk selection to product coverage, where you will be driving performance improvements to ensure we achieve our business objectives and deliver excellent customer outcomes. As part of this role you will work closely with other areas such as pricing, claims, product, operations, and IT, giving you a well-rounded understanding of how underwriting decisions impact both customers and the business.
Job Responsibility:
Build a strong understanding of our home insurance products, our underwriting rules, risk selection, and decision‑making
Using tools such as BigQuery, Excel and Looker, you will be expected to analyse data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement
Support proposals that improve customer experience, growth, and risk management
Work collaboratively with other teams around the business which include Pricing, Product, IT, Claims and Operations to help implement and test underwriting changes
Document processes, decisions, and rule changes clearly
Present findings and proposals in both written reports and formal meetings
Manage workload effectively and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Challenge existing processes and contribute to creative ideas
Make balanced, reasoned judgments that consider both the needs of our customer and the business
Requirements:
A degree at 2:1 or above in any discipline
Ability to think critically, solve problems logically, and use data to inform conclusions
Proficiency in Excel, with a willingness to learn new data tools, systems, and analytical techniques
A self‑starter who is motivated, organised, proactive, and keen to develop a career in underwriting
A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex or technical information clearly to a range of audiences
Comfortable engaging with stakeholders across different teams and levels
Flexible and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities
Nice to have:
A degree in a STEM discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Technology)
Ability to code in SQL, or interest in developing coding skills
Exposure to data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or statistical techniques
An interest in how insurance works, how risk is assessed, and how commercial decisions are made
Experience presenting data, findings, or recommendations in an academic, professional, or extracurricular setting

Eligible for up to £3,600 of free shares each year after one year of service
33 days holiday (including bank holidays) when they join us, increasing the longer you stay with us, up to a maximum of 38 days (including bank holidays)
