The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership, care, and conditioning of the golf course, clubhouse grounds, and related equipment, ensuring an exceptional playing environment and member experience consistent with a premier private club. This role oversees all agronomic, landscaping, and horticultural programs with a focus on excellence, consistency, and long-term sustainability. The Superintendent plans, administers, and executes annual operating and capital budgets; recruits, trains, and leads a highly skilled maintenance team; and applies sound agronomic practices to consistently meet—and exceed—member expectations for course conditions and playability.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and implement annual maintenance budget and operating plan
Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved
Maintain the golf course in proper playing condition according to KSM standards
Supervise course construction projects and all planting and care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees
Establish and implement a maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles, etc
Implement and monitor the purchase ordering and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure proper quantity and price on all purchases
Interact comfortably with our Membership where the expectation is that golf course conditions consistently meet quality standards defined by the KemperSports, General Manager and the GCS
Identify annual initiatives and budget objectives, presenting background reasoning with thoughtful, well-conceived objectives, which he/she will be accountable to attain
Maintain accurate records to track labor costs, maintenance expenses, construction activities, equipment repair, OSHA safety activities, and fertilizer, chemical, and pest control practices
Requirements:
Possess a college degree in agronomy or turf management with a minimum of 4+ years working within a golf course community
An active full member of the GCSAA and regular participant in continuing education
Should have pesticide applicators license or will be required to obtain a Tennessee Pesticide License within 60 days of hiring
Knowledge of working with MiniVerde Bermuda or other Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grasses, zoysia turf and providing consistent, quality conditions
Must have excellent organizational, financial and communication skills and be able to interface with all facets of Club operations and membership
