In this role you will lead customer focused business development and opportunity identification for GM Defense across tactical and operational energy solutions and related opportunities. You will grow our Defense and Federal Government energy solutions portfolio, including energy storage systems, mobile energy management and distribution, microgrid technologies, commercial batteries and energy resilience capabilities with the War Department/ Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Government, international customers and key industry partners. You will identify and qualify new business, shape acquisition approaches with government customers and drive customer focused capture management activities that convert opportunities into wins, working closely with GM Defense and GM enterprise product, engineering and manufacturing teams.
Job Responsibility:
Lead pipeline development and qualification for tactical and operational energy and related solutions in support of the GM Defense Long Term Plan and Annual Operating Plan
Maintain a current understanding of customer missions, capability gaps, budgets and acquisition plans to position GM Defense solutions early
Develop and sustain strong relationships within the War Department and other U.S. Government customers, Prime Defense contractors, strategic partners and industry influencers
Coordinate and lead meetings with customers and teammates to develop requirements, acquisition strategies, timing and budgets
Partner with the Director, Commercial, Energy and Manufacturing Solutions to refine and execute the Energy Solutions growth strategy
Work cross functionally with GM Defense and GM enterprise teams to ensure internal alignment, product allocation and manufacture of solutions that support Defense customers
Develop and maintain Capture Plans and lead capture activities including pursuit decisions, bid/no bid gates and formal reviews
Collaborate with proposal, pricing, contracts, legal and technical teams to deliver compliant, competitive and customer aligned offers
Support development and achievement of GM Defense Annual Operating Plan and Long Term Plan objectives for Defense & Federal Government Energy Solutions and related portfolios and share best practices across the company
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 3 years of relevant business development experience in industry, preferably in a government customer facing role
Proven ability to build trust, influence and motivate diverse internal and external teams in a dynamic, demanding environment
Extensive experience working with War Department/ Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. Government Agency leaders, with strong understanding of customers, missions, decision processes and buying processes
Experience developing and executing Capture Plans and leading pursuits from identification through proposal submission
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
able to create clear, compelling customer and internal materials
Strong analytical, problem solving and entrepreneurial skills
comfortable operating in a fast paced, high technology environment
Team oriented with demonstrated success in highly matrixed organizations
Must be flexible and able to travel worldwide, including frequent travel to Washington DC and other customer locations
Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)
Eligible to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire
Nice to have:
Direct experience identifying and leading capture opportunities and strategic subcontracting opportunities in the Defense and Federal market
Demonstrated working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and related regulations, and of multiple contract types (for example, IDIQs, OTAs) and payment types (for example, FFP, cost reimbursable, T&M)
Demonstrated success leading customer focused capture management activities including shaping requirements, building competitive strategies and leading color team reviews
Principle based leader who earns the trust and confidence of peers and stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment
Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance as of the first day of work
