Adyen is seeking a Global Manager for the Payments Partner Engineering team. This role requires a leader with a solid technical foundation, deep operational instincts, and a proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams. You will be responsible for the health of Adyen's payment partner integrations — spanning global card schemes, banks, wallets, local and alternative payment methods — and for evolving the Partner Engineering function to reduce reactive operational work to proactively addressing partner integration health. As the leader of the global Payments Partner Eng team, you will manage a team of Payment Partner Engineers who serve as Adyen's technical point of accountability for payment partner integrations. Your goal will be to drive integration reliability and performance across Adyen's global payment method portfolio, while building the tools, processes, and capabilities that allow the team to scale. This position requires a blend of leadership, technical and payments domain depth, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence both internal stakeholders and external payment partners. This role is critical in ensuring Adyen's payment partner integrations meet the reliability and performance standards that underpin our merchant value proposition. The ideal candidate has led technical, cross-functional teams in complex environments, understands payments and API-based integrations, and brings a proactive, high-agency mindset to building a team and function from a still-early stage.
Job Responsibility
Lead, mentor, and coach a global team of Payment Partner Engineers, fostering their growth and ensuring they are effective technical counterparts to Adyen's payment partners
Define and drive a vision for the Payments Partner Engineering function — shifting the team's center of gravity from reactive issue management toward proactive partnership, performance ownership, and operational leverage
Own integration health across Adyen's payment method portfolio, with accountability for reliability, performance (auth rates, settlement, disputes, etc.), and the team's service model to internal and external stakeholders
Drive strategic architectural recommendations to ensure partners optimally integrate with Adyen, maximizing value for Adyen's merchant customers
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Commercial, Compliance, and Reliability teams to represent the 'technical voice of the partner' and drive action on integration issues and improvements
Establish and maintain direct relationships with payment partners at a senior level, including participation in QBRs, joint business planning, and escalation management
Use Adyen's planning processes to secure resources, define team structure, and drive alignment with senior stakeholders on prioritization and team direction
Requirements
8+ years of direct line management experience of technical or hybrid technical/operational teams, with a track record of hiring, developing, and managing senior individual contributors
Solid understanding of payments — familiarity with card schemes, payment method integrations, and API-based payment flows is strongly preferred
Comfortable with technical concepts at the API and systems level
able to engage credibly with engineers and technical partners without needing to be a hands-on software engineer
Proven experience driving operational improvements — identifying the root causes of recurring issues and building sustainable processes, tooling, or automation to address them
Strong communicator and cross-functional influencer
comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving alignment across Product, Engineering, Commercial, and external partner teams
Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior internal stakeholders and payment partner counterparts
High agency: you don't wait for direction. You identify opportunities, form a point of view, get alignment, and move.
