Job Description:

The GIS Technician will be given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on customer projects at SSP Innovations. The GIS Technician will be exposed to various software programs to help them better understand those programs and outside plant (OSP) concepts. This role performs several data production functions within a project including analyzing utility maps, geometry and tabular data, sketches, field photographs, imagery, and other data sources. This is a remote (work from home) position.

Job Responsibility:

  • Compile, integrate, edit, and maintain spatial data from a wide variety of sources for inclusion in our Geographic Information System (GIS) and service operation maps or to a customer’s environment
  • Develop scripts that will automate tasks within the GIS software
  • Analyze and correlate data from various sources to be linked to features
  • Assist with investigating and resolving map problems reported
  • Perform data quality control and assurance
  • Occasional involvement in project start-ups and client interaction as needed
  • Produce project specific documentation as needed
  • Consistently exceed the productivity standards per project requirements
  • Consistently exceed the quality standards per project requirements
  • Travel, on a limited basis, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science, a related field, and/or equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with ESRI and other GIS software programs
  • Knowledge of cartographic principles, standards, and terminology
  • Create and/or maintain advanced data production functions (for gas, electric, or telecommunication commodities) using GIS-related software
  • Advanced skills in editing, manipulating, and analyzing data within GIS
  • Have working knowledge of all project tools/specifications to complete work
  • Consistently detail oriented, organized, and quality focused
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient working knowledge with Microsoft Office

Nice to have:

  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Communication skills, both oral and written
  • Direct utility or telecommunications experience
