We are seeking a detail‑oriented GIS / OSP Mapping Technician to support our engineering and operations teams by maintaining accurate geospatial data, adjusting construction documentation, and ensuring all fiber route and plant records are up to date. In this role, you will work with GIS systems, shapefiles, construction drawings, and AutoCAD outputs to ensure precise mapping of fiber assets and related infrastructure. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to adapt to changing priorities, and a commitment to accuracy in a production‑driven environment.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain, update, and quality-check GIS databases to ensure accurate representation of fiber routes, assets, and supporting infrastructure
Adjust and correct shapefiles and KML/KMZ files received from contractors to ensure proper alignment and integrity within the GIS system
Review and update DWG files, including adjusting coordinates and ensuring compliance with established mapping standards
Read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings to identify handholes (HH), splice points, routing details, and engineering callouts
Ensure all geospatial updates follow project guidelines and adhere to internal quality standards
Follow written and verbal instructions with consistency and accuracy
Work efficiently within a fast-paced production environment, adapting to shifting priorities as needed
Maintain accountability for deliverables, deadlines, and data accuracy through strong time-management practices
Requirements:
Experience maintaining and updating GIS databases
Proficiency with shapefiles, KML/KMZ, and other geospatial formats
Familiarity with reviewing and adjusting DWG files (AutoCAD experience preferred)
Ability to read and understand standard construction drawings, with the ability to identify HH, splice points, and related OSP elements
Competency using Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
Capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Experience working in a production environment preferred
Strong time-management skills and personal accountability
Ability to adapt quickly to changing project priorities
Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on accuracy
Clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing
Must be authorized to work in the US
