Job Description:

A GIS System Drafter maintains geospatial databases, and supports engineers, planners, and analysts with cartographic and drafting expertise.

Job Responsibility:

  • Update maps and plans using GIS systems to meet project specifications and standards
  • Convert field survey data, as-built information, and spatial datasets into clean, georeferenced GIS layers
  • Maintain geospatial data integrity: perform topology checks, attribute validation, and data cleaning
  • document workflows and metadata
  • Coordinate with project teams: incorporate feedback and ensure deliverables meet technical and QA/QC requirements
  • Manage file organization and standards: apply naming conventions, coordinate systems, projection standards, and backup procedures

Requirements:

  • Associate degree or certificate in GIS, Cartography, Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Drafting, Geography, or related field
  • bachelor's preferred for advanced roles
  • 1–3 years of hands-on GIS drafting experience or equivalent internship/project work
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS or QGIS and AutoCAD (or Civil 3D)
  • experience with geodatabases, shapefiles, and common raster/vector formats
  • Understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, spatial analysis basics, and cartographic principles

Nice to have:

  • ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, QGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation
  • Experience with fiber to the home designs and construction methods
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, clear written and verbal communication, ability to meet deadlines and work in multidisciplinary teams
  • GISP, Esri Technical Certification, or vendor-specific CAD
