Job Description

Perform observations and documentation of geotechnical exploration activities (e.g., soil/rock boring or, test pits). Communicate with project manager, other engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives and others as applicable regarding the project site, project requirements, testing, observations and results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Job Responsibility

  • Collect and analyze samples of soil, rock, and other earth materials
  • Assist on tasks and perform basic testing and observation/documentation duties
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results
  • Communicate information to Project Manager
  • Submits documentation and communicates results as directed
  • Maintains assigned equipment
  • Follows safety rules and practices
  • Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work
  • Report safety issues or concerns to management
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects
  • Perform fieldwork for geotechnical subsurface investigation
  • Logging of geotechnical sampling of soil and rock
  • Perform other tasks/activities as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months experience preferred, but not required
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
  • Obtain 10-Hour OSHA certification within 6 months of hire

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in outdoor/field working/driving conditions
  • Previous experience in Geotechnical drilling/sampling
  • Proficiency with MS Office computer programs
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

  • Performing maintenance, cleaning, upkeep, calibrations, and ensuring the safe working condition of equipment at required intervals or usage
  • Documenting testing and thoroughly communicating with fellow staff members as well as various construction team representatives
  • Coordinating with office staff members, clients, and other key stakeholders
  • Completing tasks as required
