Job Description:

Geotechnical Engineer role within the Geotechnical Engineering team based in Brisbane, focused on managing mine waste and water, solving complex challenges in the mining industry.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist with geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring for mine waste management facilities (e.g., tailings dams, waste rock dumps) and related mine infrastructure, with opportunities to develop skills in analysis and design
  • Supporting field programs such as drilling, testing, and sampling
  • assisting with field mapping, planning, coordination, and monitoring of earthworks construction
  • Helping with desktop assessments, including collecting, organizing, and interpreting geological and geotechnical data, and contributing to reporting
  • Learning and applying geotechnical modelling tools (e.g., Slope/W, Seep/W, Muk3D) and in-house analytical methods
  • Contribute to engineering deliverables such as reports, drawings, specifications, presentations, and quantity estimates
  • Provide general project support, including coordination and client-related tasks under supervision
  • Work in accordance with KCB’s Quality Management System and Health and Safety Guidelines
  • Collaborate with other KCB offices in Australia and internationally as project needs arise

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in Geotechnical Engineering, preferably within the Tailings and Mine Waste sector
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering
  • Ability to perform site investigations, soil sampling, and laboratory testing
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W)
  • Competence in data analysis and report writing

  • Support business development through project scoping, proposal input, and client engagement
