Job Description

Geotechnical design, preparation of supporting calculations, reports, and specifications related to foundation design, earthworks, slope engineering, retaining wall design, underground excavations, ground treatment, and ground investigation. Responsibility for small projects and reviewing the work of externally procured consultants.

Job Responsibility

  • Geotechnical design, preparation of supporting calculations, reports, and specifications related to foundation design, earthworks, slope engineering, retaining wall design, underground excavations, ground treatment, and ground investigation
  • Responsibility for small projects and reviewing the work of externally procured consultants working on larger, more complex projects
  • Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of a project team, including allocating and checking work and providing feedback on performance
  • Coordinates activities with colleagues and team members to meet deadlines and achieve set targets in the most effective and efficient way
  • Ensures junior team members are adhering to delivery standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of the industry
  • Provides recommendations on resourcing (people) requirements for specific projects to more senior team members
  • Leads the development and submission of proposals for routine, low-risk projects and contributes to the development of proposals for moderately complex projects
  • Supports in development of business by maintaining client relationships and ensuring client loyalty and repeat work through excellent customer service and delivery
  • Take responsibility for technical & administrative development and support the learning of sub-ordinates

Requirements

  • First degree in a relevant engineering/geological field, together with a recognized postgraduate geotechnical qualification or doctorate in relevant field
  • Minimum 8 to 12 years of experience in the field of geotechnical engineering
  • Experience in geotechnical design of earthworks, slopes, retaining walls, underground structures, port structures, building structures, ideally in a variety of sectors
  • Experience in designing and delivering ground improvement methods in wide variety of environments
  • Experience in preparation and checking of well-presented design calculations, notes, reports, and general correspondence
  • Conversant with IS, IRC & relevant international codes and leading industry analysis and software for the design of slopes, retaining walls and foundations
  • Experience and understanding of the multi-disciplinary design process
  • Experience of managing small projects independently
  • Supervising, mentoring, or developing less experienced engineers
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Commercial awareness in dealings with clients, proposals, and projects
  • Learning agility, actively learning through experimentation and experience, and seeking ways to grow and to be challenged

Nice to have

  • Experience in the Transportation sector would be a particular advantage
  • Experience in preparing, running, and interpreting finite element packages such as ‘PLAXIS’ would be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used within the water, transportation, and/or energy sectors would be an advantage
