Job Description

Work Location: UAE – Residence, Oman – Frequent Day Trips. Job Purpose: Responsible for managing Geotechnical, Earthworks, Drainage and Tunnel related matters, including investigating and evaluating soil, rock, groundwater, and man-made materials and their interaction with earth retention systems, structure foundations, and other civil engineering works.

Job Responsibility

  • Responsible for managing Geotechnical, Earthworks, Drainage and Tunnel related matters, including investigating and evaluating soil, rock, groundwater, and man-made materials and their interaction with earth retention systems, structure foundations, and other civil engineering works
  • Managing and delivering all geotechnical and tunnel design works during each stage of design development, in accordance with project requirements and design criteria, and ensuring quality and constructability of works
  • Performing technical reviews of geotechnical analyses and design of tunnels, shallow and deep foundations, embankments/cuts, pavements, and earth retaining systems for transit, transportation, buildings, and water projects
  • Planning, scoping, and managing geotechnical and geophysical investigations and laboratory testing programs in soil and rock, including assessment and interpretation of ground investigation data, geotechnical design parameters, and geohazard/geotechnical risk assessment
  • Preparing geotechnical memoranda, data and design reports
  • Preparing design drawings and specifications
  • Providing engineering support and construction oversight during construction activities, including earthworks, ground improvement, deep/shallow foundations, tunnels and rockslide mitigation
  • Performing nonlinear site response analysis using both conventional software and finite element software
  • Performing soil-structure interaction analysis for foundations, basements, tunnels, shafts and other below-grade infrastructure using 2D and 3D finite element modelling
  • Preparing shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability calculations and seismic assessments
  • Carrying out temporary support designs for tunnel shafts and cut and cover tunnels / subway stations
  • Prepare geotechnical desk study reports for site due diligence
  • Coordinating and developing designs for stormwater management, drainage, and flood control works, including review and assessment of hydrological and hydraulic data and modelling
  • Coordinating and managing progress of design review and all technical matters between construction management team, detailed design, contractor and project manager consultants
  • Any other duty assigned by Line Manager

Requirements

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or any related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of Relevant Experience

  • Prepare engineering deliverables including design basis reports, scopes of work, technical specifications, construction work packages, calculations, hazard logs, test plans, and cost estimates.
  • Perform engineering analysis and design in accordance with BC Hydro Engineering Design Practices and EGBC requirements.
  • Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as Professional of Record (PoR).
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering design activities to ensure constructability, schedule alignment, safety, and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Support route selection studies, daylighting activities, constructability reviews, and early-stage investigations for underground transmission and utility projects.
  • Conduct site investigations including drill hole layout, test pits, field inspections, in-situ testing, soil and rock logging, sample collection, instrumentation installation, and geotechnical monitoring.
  • Analyze and interpret geotechnical data from field investigations, laboratory testing, LiDAR, GIS, satellite imagery, surveys, and published sources.
  • Perform seepage, stability, deformation, liquefaction, and seismic analyses for embankments, slopes, dams, excavations, retaining structures, and foundations.
