We are looking for a Geographic Information System Technician to join our team in Greer, South Carolina. In this long-term contract position, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing our sanitary sewer database, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with established standards. This role offers the opportunity to work both in the field and office, utilizing advanced GIS technologies to contribute to the operational efficiency of sewer system management.
Job Responsibility:
Perform detailed data collection, validation, and updates of sewer asset information using GIS technologies
Conduct field inspections and office-based data verification of sewer assets, including infrastructure such as mains, manholes, and service laterals
Convert and integrate field data into the GIS database using approved software, workflows, and tools
Edit and validate GIS datasets by reviewing spatial data, querying databases, and comparing records against engineering drawings and surveys
Identify inconsistencies or errors in data and implement corrective actions to ensure system accuracy
Utilize GIS software and tools, such as ArcGIS and Cityworks, to support mapping, reporting, and data cleanup initiatives
Maintain detailed records of completed tasks, track progress, and provide regular updates to management
Interpret engineering plans, maps, and reports to ensure accurate spatial representation of sewer infrastructure
Collaborate with internal teams to address data issues, confirm asset details, and support ongoing updates
Adhere to safety standards and regulations during field and office work while maintaining positive and respectful relationships with colleagues
Requirements:
Proficiency in GIS software, including ESRI ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcGIS Server
Experience with GIS databases and mapping technologies
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering plans, as-built drawings, and technical maps
Familiarity with sewer system infrastructure and asset management workflows
Knowledge of data validation and quality control processes for GIS datasets
Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and address data inconsistencies
Effective communication skills for collaborating with teams and reporting progress
Capability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently in both field and office settings
