Job Description:

KCB is seeking a geochemist to join and grow our integrated, multi-disciplinary team in Brisbane or Newcastle. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale, world-class projects that will continually challenge and enhance your geochemistry skills. You will collaborate with an experienced geochemistry team and other talented professionals dedicated to delivering high-quality geoscience and engineering services.

Job Responsibility:

  • Fulfill a technical role focussed on geochemistry / hydrochemistry services predominantly for the mining industry
  • Geochemistry scopes in geoscience group
  • Field planning and co-ordination, laboratory / analysis planning and monitoring, regulatory liaison / reporting
  • Supervision, knowledge transfer and mentoring of geochemistry group staff and direction of field and technical programs
  • Data collection and management, data interpretation including processing and assessment of field collected data and development of conceptual site understanding for further assessment
  • Relevant modelling experience with regard to geochemistry, gas transfer, unsaturated flow etc
  • Be familiar with software packages like Chemplugin, Geochemists Workbench, Geostudio (SEEP/W), GoldSim, PHREEQC and other packages
  • Report writing and deliverable development, and integration of geochemical investigations into broader studies where scopes require
  • Project management and client management duties for projects assigned to, or won by you, and complete report writing and presentation needs as projects require
  • Undertake marketing and business development activities to generate project work and promote geochemistry group growth
  • Undertake projects within your area of expertise and in alignment with other Australasian Operations projects
  • Develop intra- and inter-business unit relationships in order to support other projects from other business units as required
  • Contribute to geoscience business development and marketing efforts, as coordinated by Australasian Operations group leads and identified marketing priorities
  • Provide guidance, peer-review and direction to other geochemistry / hydrochemistry and water remediation professionals in our other offices, when required
  • Provide technical support to peripheral services such as hydrogeology, geology, environmental, soils and geotechnical investigations when required
  • Support other projects (non-water and environmental projects) as required
  • this may include, in some cases, non-chargeable duties such as training, marketing and administrative functions as approved by management
  • Keep abreast of changes and/or updates to ARD/ML practices in the mining industry
  • Operate within KCB’s IMS (Integrated Management System) comprising Quality Management System, Health and Safety Guidelines and Environmental Management System
  • Be responsible for report writing and deliverable development
  • Mentor and develop junior staff through the provision of technical support and feedback

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelors or Masters degree in geology, chemistry or environmental engineering from a recognised / accredited tertiary institution
  • Minimum 8 years related experience or the equivalent of education and experience
  • Geochemical experience and knowledge are required in the areas of geochemical characterisation, acid rock drainage and metal leaching (ARD/ML) assessments, water quality modelling, remediation and testing programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and demonstrated report writing skills
  • Good contract administration and project management skills, and good interpersonal skills
  • Availability to travel within Australia and Internationally

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge in additional disciplines like soil science, hydrology, geohydrology etc will be an advantage
  • The ability to use Python will be an advantage for pre- and post-processing of model results
