Job Description:

Are you a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity in a vibrant Blackburn school starting in March 2026? If so, we want to hear from you! We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Key Stage 2 (Year 6) General Teaching Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behaviour management and experience working with children who have SEN. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a special school as a Teaching Assistant, specifically catering to Key Stage 2 students. The role entails providing general support within the classroom setting. A minimum Level 2 qualification is required for this full-time position, which operates five days a week from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm.

Job Responsibility:

  • Reading, writing and SPAG support
  • Adjusting or breaking down activities to support participation and understanding
  • Developing a supportive relationship with the child that promotes self-esteem and confidence
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of the specific academic, physical, emotional and behavioural needs of the child and responding to them effectively
  • Liaising with the Teacher and SENCO about the development and support needed at home and in school for the child
  • Providing whole class, small group and 1:1 support
  • Monitoring and maintaining records of the pupil's progress
  • Assisting with general school duties which may include setting up classrooms, preparing resources and displays
  • Supervision of children during lunch times and during entry/exit of school premises

Requirements:

  • Enhanced child DBS on the update service or willingness to acquire a new one
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (sponsorship unavailable)
  • Preferred previous experience in educational settings, particularly schools
  • Provision of two recent professional references
  • Experience working with young people and class management skills
  • Comfortable managing challenging behaviour
  • Able to engage with and motivate children
  • TA Qualified
  • Experience working in KS2
  • Providing personalised support to individual students
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification
  • Experience working with children who have SEN
  • Strong background in behaviour management
