An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM) to join an expanding consultant team delivering comprehensive inpatient care in the South East. The role offers exposure to a broad case mix across multisystem pathology, providing excellent opportunities for clinical development, service improvement, teaching, and research. The post supports the continued expansion of integrated short-stay pathways, seven-day services, and academic engagement within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consultant-led inpatient general medical care across acute and speciality wards
Supervise junior doctors and trainees, providing clinical advice and reviewing treatment plans
Participate in daily ward rounds, multidisciplinary case discussions, and escalation planning
Support safe patient flow, discharge planning, and continuity of care
Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and professional practice
Deliver structured teaching and supervision for trainees, medical students, and multidisciplinary staff
Participate in assessment, appraisal, and feedback for junior clinicians
Contribute to departmental education programmes and workforce development initiatives
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities
Contribute to service redesign projects and operational initiatives as delegated by clinical leadership
Promote multidisciplinary collaboration and best practice standards
Requirements:
Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
MRCP (UK) or equivalent
Completion of higher specialist training in General Internal Medicine
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (within 6 months), CESR, or equivalent
Demonstrated consultant-level capability in General Internal Medicine
Broad experience managing complex multisystem medical patients
Understanding of clinical risk management and governance
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Strong application of evidence-based practice
Effective IT and clinical systems competence
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Logical clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making ability
Evidence of audit participation and service improvement
