Job Description:

Randstad is recruiting a General Manager Safety on behalf of a leading government entity responsible for developing a major national transport network. This strategic role is appointed during the critical development and planning phase of a mega-infrastructure project. As a senior executive leader (SES Band 1 equivalent), you will lead the integration of safety and WHS principles across all delivery stages.

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and maintain the safety strategy for a complex infrastructure program, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives
  • Provide authoritative reporting and functional expertise to the Board, Executive leadership, and regulators
  • Define safety design requirements and ensure "Safety-in-Design" principles are embedded from concept through to delivery
  • Oversee shared safety risks across delivery partners, technical advisors, and contractors within complex multi-party arrangements
  • Champion a proactive "zero-harm" culture and lead initiatives to build safety capability across the organization

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience heading safety or WHS functions within high-risk environments (major infrastructure, transport, or large-scale government programs)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and contemporary safety management systems
  • Proven ability to engage with regulators and manage complex external partnerships
  • Australian Citizenship is mandatory. The successful candidate must hold or be able to obtain a high-level security clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1 or 2)
