The General Manager Clinical Governance provides enterprise-wide clinical leadership, ensuring safe, high-quality, person-centred care across all services. It is a key liaison role with external stakeholders, including Government, regulators, and industry bodies. This role leads the development and implementation of clinical governance frameworks, fosters a strong Clinical Community of Practice, and supports the professional development, wellbeing, and credentialing of clinical staff. The General Manager Clinical Governance champions evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, clinical workforce capability, and innovation aligned with HammondCare’s Mission and strategy.

Job Responsibility:

  • Develop and lead the enterprise Clinical Governance Strategy to underpin safe, high-quality, person-centred care
  • Chair the Clinical Governance Committee and Quality Care Advisory Body
  • Support the Board Quality, Safety, and Care Sub-Committee with expert clinical advice
  • Ensure enterprise-wide integration of clinical policies, audit systems, and governance structure
  • Influence organisational decision-making with high-level medical expertise
  • Set, monitor, and report on clinical performance targets aligned with standards (e.g., NACMQI, Strengthened Quality Standards)
  • Leverage data and business intelligence to identify risks, gaps, and drive continuous quality improvement
  • Lead incident management, risk mitigation, and clinical investigations where required
  • Lead and nurture a Clinical Community of Practice across HammondCare services
  • Mentor and develop clinical leaders, building a future-ready clinical workforce
  • Support the professional development of Clinical Staff
  • Collaborate with Learning and People teams to design clinical education and reflective practice tools
  • Embed a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous quality improvement
  • Support clinical audit programs, quality improvement cycles, and dissemination of lessons learned
  • Lead enterprise initiatives to remediate underperforming services and lift care quality across all Care Units
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinical policies aligned with legislation, standards, and HammondCare’s principles
  • Monitor evolving healthcare regulations and proactively adapt internal frameworks
  • Ensure privacy, consent, and ethical standards are upheld across services
  • Maintain active clinical practice to ensure contemporary knowledge and credibility
  • Provide expert clinical advice in complex cases, with particular focus on dementia, palliative care and aged care
  • Operate across our Care Unit teams to apply your clinical expertise and guidance for the improvement of disciplines/models within our service design and delivery
  • Support clinical communities of practice and provide input as a subject matter expert
  • Ensure professional, aligned and capable leadership to the team in line with HammondCare’s Leader Attributes, Christian Mission, values and strategy
  • Engage with Care unit Clinical Leads to build effective team relations, set expectations, praise and recognise good work, develop team members in their roles and careers and build on their strengths
  • Act as the Lead Nurse across all Care Units by supporting Clinical Delivery teams to optimize clinical outcomes and deliver high standards of clinical care to clients

Requirements:

  • Current AHPRA registration and tertiary qualifications in Nursing (Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent)
  • At least 5+ years demonstrated in a Senior Nursing role, preferably in aged care, dementia, palliative care, older persons’ mental health, or related fields
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical governance, quality systems, and accreditation frameworks
  • Demonstrated leadership in building clinical capability and systems
  • Expertise in analysing complex clinical and operational data
  • Strong communication, influencing, and report writing skills
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Practice, Clinical Governance, Health Administration, Public Health, or Business Administration (or working towards) desirable
  • Research and publication experience in relevant fields desirable
