Play an essential role in day-to-day farm success as a Farm Technician, supporting animal care, productivity, and overall farm performance. In this role, you will be actively involved in farrowing and lactation activities while helping meet weekly shipping goals for full value pigs. You will operate and manage the GESTAL farrowing feeder system and ensure animals receive proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding each day. By supporting daily farm operations and collaborating with the team, you help ensure farm goals are achieved and high standards of care are consistently maintained.
Job Responsibility:
Ensure proper procedures are followed for Day-One pig, fostering
Processing of piglets in accordance with company procedures
Proper treatment/care of sows in farrowing
Maintain cleaning/bedding of farrowing pens
and clean-out and disinfecting farrowing room after weaning
Keep, communicate, and report accurate records daily
Notify and discuss openly with management any problems, concerns or questions
Conserve farm resources such as supplies, equipment, and time
Promote cooperation within the unit and contributes to adequate staffing
Communicate openly and freely with others
Normal working hours are 45-50 hours per week, at times more to get the job done. Rotations are required for weekends and holidays
Any other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management/supervisor
Requirements:
Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience working with and caring for livestock
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Ability to lead by example, and work with a team of 2-5 people
Ability to solve problems, be a critical thinker, goal oriented, and a team player
Must be able to stand, walk, and work outside up to 10 hours a day
Will be subject to ambient air temperatures throughout the working day and be exposed to sun, rain, wind, mud, snow, etc
Will be exposed to dust, animal dander, odor, and noise
Ability to properly and safely handle breeding stock weighing up to 700 pounds
Work may include lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, bending, twisting, and kneeling
Will be around and may be asked to operate four wheelers, skid steers, tractors, or other farm machinery
Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
