Job Description

SEN TA working 1:1 with a student

Job Responsibility

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a named pupil, adapting activities to meet their individual learning needs
  • Support the pupil’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adjust support strategies accordingly
  • Use appropriate strategies to manage behaviour and promote positive engagement
  • Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support
  • Support communication needs, which may include the use of visual aids, Makaton, or other communication tools

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (especially in alternative or specialist settings)
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive and safe way
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Passionate about inclusion, wellbeing, and making a difference

Nice to have

  • Training or experience in SEMH, ASD, or trauma-informed practice
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or similar)
  • Experience within an Alternative Provision setting
