Job Description

Robert Half Legal is recruiting an experienced probate litigator to become General Counsel for a national trust settlement company located in downtown San Francisco (flexible hybrid telecommute). This position is newly open because the longtime incumbent GC is retiring. This executive leadership role reports to the company’s president. There are a corporate counsel and a legal assistant who report to this GC.

Job Responsibility

  • Due diligence review of customers’ close relatives’ trust, estate, and will documents to determine total anticipated inheritance payment and file assignment of beneficiary interest
  • Manage probate cases and prepare necessary filings through to full payment of company’s assignment, including resolving disputes and handling litigation
  • Other duties include risk management, regulatory compliance, and general legal operations oversight

Requirements

  • 7-10++ years of probate, trust administration, and trusts & estates practice experience
  • Active and in good standing in a state bar association -- State Bar of California is preferred
  • Experience advising clients in highly regulated financial services industries, including consumer financing, residential mortgage, etc., is a plus factor
  • Good leader with teamplayer attitude, collaborative and friendly interpersonal skills, and effective case management abiliites
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
  • 7-10++ years of legal experience, preferably in probate and estate-related matters
  • Experience in probate litigation and estate administration
  • Expertise in commercial contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal cases and oversee external counsel
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal principles related to financial services
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills

Nice to have

Experience advising clients in highly regulated financial services industries, including consumer financing, residential mortgage, etc., is a plus factor
