Job Responsibility:

  • Share simple, engaging explanations with children about plants, seasons, wildlife and food growing
  • Communicate clearly with leaders about garden needs, seasonal priorities and any maintenance concerns
  • Support outdoor activity set-ups, including preparing spaces for learning, exploration and events
  • Plan garden activities with longevity and sustainability in mind
  • Carry out light gardening and grounds maintenance, including pruning and plant care, lawn mowing and edging, rubbish and leaf collection, general tidying and upkeep of outdoor areas
  • Identify opportunities to improve outdoor spaces to better support learning and engagement
  • Use sustainable, environmentally conscious gardening practices wherever possible
  • Suggest seasonal ideas for planting, growing and outdoor activities that align with nursery learning themes
  • Ensure tools, equipment and outdoor areas are stored and maintained safely
  • Always follow health and safety guidance, particularly when working around children
  • Maintain safe, well-presented outdoor spaces that support children’s play, learning and wellbeing
  • Support children to take part in gardening and growing activities, helping them understand planting, harvesting and caring for living things
  • Where possible, align this learning with our Forest School approach
  • Encourage curiosity, responsibility and pride in shared outdoor spaces
  • Model calm, respectful and nurturing interactions when working alongside children outdoors

Requirements:

  • Being a car driver is essential
