Job Description

We are partnering with a highly established real estate investment management firm seeking a Fund Controller to join its Investor Accounting team in Boston. This role will oversee fund-level accounting, financial reporting, waterfalls, capital activity, audit/tax coordination, and investor reporting across a portfolio of real estate funds and separate accounts. The position will also manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals while partnering closely with portfolio management, acquisitions, capital markets, investor relations, lenders, auditors, and external tax providers.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee fund-level accounting, financial reporting, waterfalls, capital activity, audit/tax coordination, and investor reporting across a portfolio of real estate funds and separate accounts
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals
  • Partner closely with portfolio management, acquisitions, capital markets, investor relations, lenders, auditors, and external tax providers

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across public accounting and real estate investment management/private equity real estate
  • CPA required
  • Strong US GAAP and fund reporting experience
  • Experience with waterfalls, capital allocations, IRR/performance reporting, and complex fund structures
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Yardi experience is a plus

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with internal teams to gather setup requirements and ensure accurate onboarding. Communicate fund setup progress, issues, and resolution plans to project stakeholders
  • Quality Assurance and Testing: Conduct UAT (User Acceptance Testing) for migration and new client onboarding setups, changes, and system releases
  • Training: Assist in developing training materials and training employees, and act as escalation point for questions and research
  • Process Improvement: Maintain documentation for fund setup procedures and configuration standards. Identify opportunities to enhance fund creation workflows for accuracy, speed, and scalability
  • Compliance and Controls: Ensure fund setups meet regulatory, internal control, and audit requirements. Participate in internal and external audits related to fund setup activities
