Job Description:

Steward is a website development agency that focuses on non-profits, associations, and societies. We are a small senior technical team that focuses on CMS development with about 70% of the work in WordPress and 30% in Joomla and custom development. We’re seeking a talented Fullstack WordPress Developer with strong expertise in custom theme and plugin development. You’ll work on WordPress projects, including theme and plugin development, and potentially some Joomla projects (with appropriate support, depending on your familiarity). This is a contract role for full-time work over a 5 month contract. However, you’ll work as if you were a full-time employee, participating in team meetings, communicating via Slack, and coordinating with other people on our team.

Job Responsibility:

Build custom WordPress themes that closely match designs with meticulous attention to detail
Develop custom WordPress plugins with clean, well-structured code
Take ownership of WordPress projects from concept to completion
Refactor and update existing themes and templates
Address other full-stack developer tasks as needed for non-WordPress systems and situations
Provide limited support for clients who have issues or problems

Requirements:

At least 4 years of professional experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins
Strong front-end development skills with an eye for detail
Proven ability to write clean, professional, well-structured code
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
The ability to work independently and complete objectives without explicit direction
The ability to deliver polished work, self-review, and catch bugs before others do
